飼い主が筋肉や関節、その他の痛みのためにフルルビプロフェンを含む外用薬を自分自身に使用した後、病気になったり死亡したりした2軒の家庭の猫が最初に報告されています。 飼い主は、クリームやローションを自分の首や足に塗っており、ペットに直接塗ったわけではありません。 薬には、フルルビプロフェンとシクロベンザプリンのほか、バクロフェン、ガバペンチン、リドカイン、プリロカインなどの成分が含まれていました。 死亡した3匹の猫の死体解剖の結果、腎臓と腸にNSAIDの毒性が認められました。
